CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
A1 allows you to ride a scooter or small motorbike, and ride as a passenger on a pillion if you are 17 or older.
A two-day course that doesn't require any tests. It's a great introduction to riding, with a focus on reviewing the primary parts of a bicycle and slow exercises for controlling.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
The CBT is a mandatory course for all new riders. It typically takes a full day to complete. If you are able to meet the required standards at the end of the course your instructor will award you with a certificate of completion which is known as a DL196.
In this course, students will learn to operate on a motorcycle. You will be guided throughout the course by a knowledgeable instructor. You will also be given a brief theory session which will teach you about the highway code and road rules as well as safe lane positioning. You will learn how to maintain and examine your bike, and how to transport passengers (if necessary).
The second part of the CBT is practical on-site riding. Your instructor will mark an area of safety where you can practice your skills. The course will begin slowly and work through basic safety checks before moving on, stopping the motorcycle, and braking correctly. During this time, your trainer will be in radio contact with you and will assist until they are satisfied that you are able to perform these exercises at a safe level.
This part of the course introduces you to the different kinds and types of roads and traffic. You'll learn how to be safe around traffic lights and roundabouts and also how to use one way streets. You'll also be taught the basics of cornering, figure of eight and emergency stops.
This is the final portion of the CBT, and your instructor will take you on a variety of different routes. You'll be in contact with your instructor, who will be monitoring your progress throughout the course. If you are able to demonstrate your ability to ride a motorcycle in traffic and handle diverse road conditions, you will be awarded with the CBT DL196 certificate.

Module 1 Theory Test
The first step towards gaining an A1 licence is passing your motorcycle test in the theory section. Following your CBT, you will begin your module 1 training. You will be riding a bicycle that is suitable to your particular category of licence. The examiner will guide you on a brief ride around the area, and you'll have 35 minutes to complete it on your own. After passing both Module 1 and Module 2 after which you will be able to take advantage of the freedoms offered by an A1 light licence. This will allow you to ride a bike up to 125cc with no learner licence, and will not require you to display your L-plates. Module 2: Practical Test
Module 2 is the practical part of your motorcycle licence. After you've passed both sections of the Module 2 test, you'll be sent your A1 license via mail. You can then ride your new bike with style and comfort around the countryside, or even to work. No matter if you ride either a supermoto or a scooter or a supermoto, your new A1 license will be your ticket to freedom adventure, excitement and adventure.
Licensing
This course is for those who have completed Module 1 and 2 and want to improve their riding skills and bond with their bike. It typically involves more advanced training and exercises like looking through your turns and leaning to steer the bike at higher speeds. You must be at least 16 years of age to be enrolled in the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). If you are younger than 18 years old You will need your parent or guardian to sign the Covid Release and Waiver of Indemnification form (click here) as well as the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement.
